On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a new
Tax Manager. This role will involve a great deal of tax compliance, including preparing and reviewing
Canadian tax returns (corporate and partnership), as well as preparing tax provisions, researching cross-border tax issues, preparing and reviewing deferred income tax calculations,
Pillar Two (GloBE) and
EIFEL compliance & reporting, preparing SR&ED tax credit claims, tax forecasting, reconciling to the GL, etc.
The new Tax Manager be hands-on in producing high quality tax compliance work rather than delegating the work to internal or external tax analysts. The Tax Manager will interact with the internal tax team in the head office and will also work with external tax service providers at a Big 4 firm. Reporting into a fantastic Tax Director who has many years of deep expertise in tax, and a collaborative and supportive leadership style.
The Tax Manager will use various tools and technologies, such as Excel, tax preparation software, and a sophisticated ERP. There is excellent opportunity for steady long-term career growth with this company over the years!

We are seeking candidates with at least 7 years’ experience in accounting & finance, including at least 4 years specializing in tax.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Candidates must have done tax compliance and tax provision work for a global company with HQ or at least significant operations in Canada (either in-house or from public practice client portfolio)
- Canadian CPA designation.
- Experience with Canadian cross-border tax issues and deferred income tax calculations
- Managers or new Senior Managers from the tax divisions of global CPA firms with relevant client portfolios will be strongly considered. Tax experience in industry (in-house corporate tax team) or secondments to client sites is highly beneficial, but not required.
- Foundational accounting skills, gained in audit & assurance in public practice, or perhaps in an earlier industry role.
- Strong technical and systems skills are required, particularly within Excel (proficient with pivot tables, Index match, look-ups, etc) and tax preparation software.
- Strong tax research skills, with the ability to support a variety of tax initiatives and tax-related projects
- Qualified candidates will be clear, effective, and confident communicators who can collaborate closely with both tax and non-tax colleagues.
- Detail-oriented, accurate, organized, and efficient. We are looking for someone who takes great pride in producing excellent tax work.
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Training in a multinational accounting firm (such as PWC, KPMG, Deloitte, EY, Grant Thornton, BDO, Baker Tilly, etc.).
- In-Depth Tax Program is an asset- already achieved or actively pursuing.
- Canadian Indirect Tax
- Experience with SRED (SR&ED) filings
- Experience with Pillar 2 (GloBE) and EIFEL
- US Corporate Tax & US Indirect Tax
- Other International Tax/VAT

Headquartered in Greater Vancouver (not in downtown Vancouver).
Hybrid- Around 50% to 60% in-office on average (i.e. working 3 days/week on-site, and sometimes just 2 days/week on-site). Free on-site employee parking.
This company has a very stable and well-managed tax function. Due to this, the work/life balance is better than the average at Big 4 firms or at global public companies. There is of course some overtime for a few weeks during quarter-end/year-end and during provision season, yes, but it’s a reasonable amount. For the majority of the year the Manager can expect to work a steady work week, assuming they are highly detailed, deadline-oriented, productive, efficient, and organized.
Base salary will be commensurate with years of tax work experience as well as relevant HR qualifications and education. The range on the base salary is
$132,000 to $164,000, with the top-end reserved for candidates who meet all sought-after qualifications and who have many years of relevant work experience.
