Payroll Accounting Analyst

Salary: $70,000 – $85,000 CAD

Overview
Our client, a leading organization within the hospitality industry , is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Payroll Accounting Analyst to support payroll operations across multiple regions.
This role is positioned at the intersection of payroll and accounting , with a strong emphasis on financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger accuracy , rather than pure payroll processing. The successful candidate will work closely with payroll vendors, finance teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
What You’ll Be Doing
Payroll Accounting & Financial Reporting
Support the accurate recording of payroll transactions within the general ledger across multiple regions
Prepare journal entries related to payroll, taxes, and employee benefits
Perform monthly reconciliations between payroll reports and accounting records
Assist with calculating and booking accruals related to compensation, bonuses, and benefit programs
Support audit requests by preparing payroll-related schedules and documentation
Payroll Operations Support
Assist in processing payroll across multiple regions in partnership with external providers
Review and validate payroll data from HRIS and third-party systems to ensure accuracy
Monitor payroll funding timelines and flag discrepancies to leadership
Track payroll submission deadlines and ensure timely completion of post-payroll activities
Data Analysis & Controls
Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, variances, and trends
Perform quality checks on payroll inputs and outputs to maintain data integrity
Support compliance with internal controls and regional regulatory requirements
Process Improvement
Maintain documentation of payroll accounting procedures and internal controls
Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency in payroll accounting workflows and reporting
Assist with ERP or payroll system enhancements and implementations
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with Finance, HR, and regional teams to ensure alignment between payroll and accounting
Respond to payroll-related inquiries with a focus on financial accuracy and reporting clarity
Support communication and tracking of incentive payments and one-time adjustments
What You Bring
2–3 years of experience in payroll, with a strong emphasis on payroll accounting and financial reporting
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, accruals, and reconciliations
Experience with payroll and ERP systems (e.g., Workday, ADP, D365, or similar)
Exposure to payroll operations across multiple regions is preferred
Progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset
