Position Summary
Goodstoney First Nation is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll & Human Resources Assistant to support the day-to-day payroll and HR functions of the Nation. The ideal candidate will have strong payroll experience, exceptional attention to detail, and experience working with payroll systems, preferably Xyntax.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting various human resources and administrative functions. This is a fully on-site position and requires regular attendance at the Goodstoney First Nation office. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and within established deadlines.
- Maintain employee payroll records and ensure data integrity.
- Enter and update employee information, earnings, deductions, benefits, and leave balances in Xyntax.
- Review timesheets and payroll documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare Records of Employment (ROEs), payroll reports, and year-end payroll documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial payroll legislation.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and confidentially.
Human Resources Support
- Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Maintain employee personnel files and HR records.
- Support recruitment activities, including posting vacancies and scheduling interviews.
- Assist with benefits administration and employee documentation.
- Prepare HR correspondence, letters, and reports as required.
- Support HR initiatives, training programs, and employee engagement activities.
- Always maintain confidentiality of employee information.
Administrative Duties
- Provide general administrative support to the HR and Finance departments.
- Assist with data entry, filing, and record management.
- Prepare reports and spreadsheets as required.
- Support special projects and other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required
- Diploma or Certificate in Payroll Administration, Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of payroll processing experience.
- Experience using payroll software, preferably Xyntax.
- Strong knowledge of payroll procedures, deductions, taxable benefits, and employment standards.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Preferred
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or working toward certification.
- Experience working in an Indigenous organization, First Nation government, or public sector environment.
- Human Resources experience supporting employee relations, recruitment, and onboarding.
