Position Vacancy: Pre-Admit Clinic
Position: Registered Practical Nurse - Unifor Service
Hours of Work: Temporary Part-Time Approx. until February 2028
Location: WRHN @ Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital, KW Campus)
Position Summary :
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) - Pre-Surgical Clinic must be professionally accountable and practice according to the current standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and WRHN Standards of practice, policies and code of conduct. RPN provides effective, high quality nursing care and is responsible for the assessment of pre-op patients, patient education, and effective communication with physicians and other members of the nursing and interdisciplinary team. The RPN can work independently and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills in order to effectively prepare the patients for general and cardiac surgery through direct patient contact as well as by means of phone interviews.
Position Responsibilities:
- Utilizes WRHN and CNO nursing standards of practice in the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
- Recognize risk factors that may impact the patient's surgical experience and communicate effectively with the team to mitigate risk and support optimal patient care and outcomes
- Demonstrate strong time management and critical thinking skills in a fast paced and challenging clinical environment
- Demonstrate leadership skills and effective teamwork skills
Work effectively with all members of the team including nurses, physicians, allied health and support staff etc

Position Requirements:
- Registered Practical Nurse, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Three to five (3-5) years of surgical experience
- Able to demonstrate excellent venipuncture and assessment skills\
- Evidence of commitment to self- directed learning
- Excellent communication skills including proven ability to manage conflict
- Strong prioritization and time management skills
- Positive work record and excellent attendance record;
- Recent experience in Pediatrics, gynecology, Ortho, and General Surgical Nursing
- Demonstrated knowledge of external pacemakers and chest tube management
- Cerner experience, an asset
