This is a position in the Substation Asset Management & Planning team in Substation Growth & Sustainment.
Responsibilities include creating strategic plans for the maintenance of substation assets in a way that maximizes the life
cycle value of the assets and initiating programs/projects to implement the plans. Maintenance costs and capital
investments must be optimized while achieving targeted performance levels and managing risks to acceptable levels.
Maintenance and capital investment decisions are made that align with the health of the entire BC Hydro fleet of assets, the
role of the particular facility within the fleet, and capital and resource availability.
The successful candidate will draw on a wide breadth of utility experience with specialized knowledge and experience with
aging infrastructure and long-term infrastructure planning to make strategic recommendations regarding the best value
investment decisions for substation assets over the long term. To do this, working collaboratively with Operations,
Engineering, Environmental, Safety, etc. staff is necessary.
Duties include:
- Develops annual sustain and maintenance work plans and budgets consistent with strategies, standards, and investment
plans; balances and determines priorities, collaborates with other Integrated Planning groups on alternatives and impacts,
and assigns the work program to Program and Contract Management or Capital Infrastructure Project Delivery for
execution.
- Develops a long term (2 to 10 years) Asset Maintain/Sustain Investment Plan and rolling budget based on asset
maintenance and sustainment strategies, current asset condition and health, and changes in performance expectations
from stakeholders, regulators, and the asset owner.
- Implements sound Asset Management principles that align with BC Hydro’s practice to optimize value for the customers
and ratepayers and meet the needs of the business.
- Confers with and provides consultative advice and input to operational, design, project and other groups to ensure
maintenance and sustaining capital issues are represented and considered; participates with customers and internal and
external stakeholders on planning and major projects, initiatives and studies.
- Reports and conducts evaluations regarding station and system outages and asset failures.
- Develops and keep current asset plans, strategies, and maintenance standards, and tracks ongoing performance and
work delivery.
- Develops and maintains spare and replacement strategies, and support the development of emergency plans, and
respond to major system events in a planning capacity.
- Complies with the diverse array of regulatory and compliance requirements BC Hydro is subject to including Work Safe
BC requirements (e.g. asbestos, confined space and fall arrest) and Environmental requirements (e.g. the removal of
assets with high concentrations of PCBs)
