Position Summary
The Summer Student – Groundskeeping & Maintenance role is a hands-on position responsible for supporting the upkeep, cleanliness, and overall appearance of residential properties within Birchwood Village. This role is ideal for a motivated and reliable individual who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in maintaining safe and visually appealing environments. The successful candidate will assist with landscaping, minor repairs, and general maintenance while working closely with the Maintenance Manager and team to ensure high standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
· Safely operate all yard equipment required to properly perform assigned duties
· Maintain a high standard of workmanship to ensure a clean and visually appealing complex
· Act professionally, courteously, and diplomatically while performing duties
· Perform seasonal groundskeeping tasks including grass cutting and trimming
· Inspect Birchwood Village grounds to ensure lawns are maintained, safe, and in good repair (including fertilizing, aerating, and garbage collection)
· Remove graffiti, clean dumped refuse, and report major damage or infractions
· Ensure all company property, equipment, tools, and supplies are properly managed and secured
· Rake, collect, and dispose of leaves in the fall season
· Perform general exterior maintenance including fence repairs, painting, signage installation, siding repairs, and eavestrough maintenance
· Repair roadways and parking areas by filling holes and applying gravel or maintenance coverings
· Operate vehicles and landscaping equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines
· Plant, prune, and maintain trees and shrubs as directed
· Assist with indoor maintenance tasks during unsafe weather conditions
· Complete and submit daily work summaries to the Maintenance Manager
· Assist emergency services when required and notify the Maintenance Manager immediately
· Follow company protocol when interacting with authorities or media
· Document incidents and maintain accurate records of events
Qualifications & Skills
· High school education (completed or in progress)
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
· Strong communication and time management skills
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
· Physically capable of performing manual labor and working outdoors in various weather conditions
· Basic knowledge of landscaping, groundskeeping, or general maintenance (asset)
· Ability to operate or willingness to learn how to use landscaping equipment and tools safely
· Problem-solving skills with a proactive and positive attitude
· Reliable, punctual, and strong work ethic
· Valid driver’s license (asset)

Pay: $18.00-$19.00 per hour
