We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Estimator / Project Coordinator to join our Construction Division.
This opportunity is ideal for a licensed plumber with estimating experience who is looking to transition into a larger estimating and project coordination role while continuing to develop their career within the construction industry.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager and Managing Director/Ownership, the Junior Estimator / Project Coordinator will support the Construction Division by preparing accurate project estimates, coordinating awarded projects, and assisting with project execution from initial planning through completion.
This position plays a key role in bridging the gap between estimating, operations, suppliers, subcontractors, and field teams to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
The successful candidate will have strong technical plumbing knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review construction drawings, specifications, tender packages, and project requirements.
- Complete detailed labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor estimates.
- Perform quantity take-offs and develop accurate project pricing.
- Request, review, and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare project budgets, scopes of work, and proposal documentation.
- Attend site visits, walkthroughs, and pre-bid meetings as required.
- Identify potential risks, exclusions, and project requirements during the estimating process.
- Assist with value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and templates.
Project Coordination & Management
- Coordinate awarded projects from handoff through completion.
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and execution.
- Support field technicians with drawings, technical information, materials, and project requirements.
- Coordinate material ordering, deliveries, and supplier communication.
- Track project labour, material costs, and overall project performance.
- Prepare and price change orders.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential delays or challenges.
- Communicate effectively with customers, general contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Participate in project meetings and site visits.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including:
- Drawings
- Scope changes
- Material tracking
- Project updates
- Deficiency lists
- Close-out documentation
- Assist with project deficiencies, final inspections, and project completion.
Qualifications Required
- BC Journeyperson Plumber Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal Plumbing Certification.
- Minimum 5 years of plumbing or commercial construction experience.
- Previous estimating experience within commercial plumbing or mechanical construction.
- Strong understanding of commercial plumbing systems, construction practices, and installation methods.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and mechanical plans.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class B Gas Fitter Licence.
- Previous project coordination or project management experience.
- Experience using construction management software (Jobber experience considered an asset).
- Experience with:
- Commercial tenant improvements
- New construction projects
- Service upgrades
- Mechanical room upgrades
- Multi-family residential projects
Compensation & Benefits
Mainland Plumbing & Heating offers a competitive compensation package, including:
- Salary range of $80,000 – $90,000 annually, based on experience.
- Monday to Friday schedule, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
