We are looking for a skilled and proactive Health and Safety Coordinator who will help us minimize the risk of job-related accidents and maintain compliance. You will assist in monitoring operations to eliminate hazardous activities and mitigate risks. You will also enforce policies to promote occupational health and safety (OHS) awareness. This position is highly involved with all processes in the manufacturing plant.
Health & Safety coordinator should be well-versed in all OHS Regulation and Standards for Ontario. Your work will be focused on prevention so you need to be diligent and analytical. You will possess a keen eye for detail and a sensitivity for potential dangers.
The goal is to support the creation of a healthy and safe workplace and report directly to the Corporate Health and Safety Manager.
Responsible for maintaining a variety of health, safety programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with excellent multi-tasking abilities who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with an operation and HR team.
Responsibilities:

Chair JHSC meetings for Admiral and assist with their organization and minute taking, preparing agendas and meeting minutes.

Ensure completion of workplace inspections
-
Onboarding for new hires and temporary employees and completion of the health and safety orientation.

Act as emergency coordinator in the absence of the health and safety manager

Liaise with and report to official regulatory bodies (WSIB, MLITSD) as required
-
Perform first aid and make determinations about advanced medical care if required.

Maintain first aid supplies, complete regular inspections of first aid supplies and maintain documentation.
-
Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets.
-
Prioritize safety issues and multitask as required to complete projects and reports.

Enforce OHS policies (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection).

Support and direct hazard investigations and complete reports:
-
Root cause analysis.
-
Complete and detailed report writing.
-
Follow through with corrective actions.
-
Organize, conduct and assist with OHS training plans:
-
Pallet jack training.
-
Crane training.
-
First aid training.
-
Forklift training.
-
Other as required.
-
Maintain training records for all employees.
-
Intervene in unsafe activities or operations.
-
Ordering of specialty safety supplies, products or training items as required.

Complete Safe Operating Procedures as required and identify gaps in the HS program regarding SOPs.

Communicate safety and human resources news bulletins and other postings as required.

Coordinate hazardous waste materials pick ups.

Employee uniform management/support.

Regular walk through of the plant for observation/inspection purposes.

Required Skills:

Knowledge of OHS guidelines and practices.

Experience in report writing and corrective actions, detail-oriented.

Proficient in MS Office.

Diligent with an analytical mind and demonstrated critical thinking.

Self-starter yet able to take orders as directed.

Familiarity with manufacturing processes, machinery and production line flow and a technical aptitude.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:
-
Work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations and internal policies and procedures.

Using or wearing the equipment, PPE that Blue Giant requires.
-
Reporting to his or her supervisor any contravention of the OHSA, regulations, or Blue Giant policies and procedures.
-
Reporting any observed hazards to the supervisor.
-
Reporting any risks or potential risks of violence or harassment encountered in the workplace immediately to supervisor.
-
Not removing or making ineffective any protective device without providing an adequate temporary substitute. When the work is completed, the original protective device must be replaced immediately.

Not using or operating any equipment, machine, device or thing or otherwise working in a manner that may endanger anyone.

Knowing, understanding and implementing safe work practices and procedures.

Attend all required Health and Safety training programs (ex: WHMIS, orientation) and applying knowledge to daily operating procedures at Blue Giant.
Education:

Post secondary education in occupational health and safety.
-
First aid certification.
-
Joint health and safety committee certification.
