Position Summary
Senior Genetics Analyst
Your goal in this position is to review, analyze and interpret genetic variants on a wide range of cases, under the direction of the Lead Laboratory Geneticist and in collaboration with members of the Genetics Team. In this role, you will have great interpersonal skills and will work effectively on an interdisciplinary team. In addition, you will also have strong oral and written communication skills and will foster professional development through effective knowledge transfer. You will have strong problem solving, organization and analytical skills and will embrace the opportunity to source new information or references. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Interpret and analyze genetic and genomic variants from next generation sequencing and SNP array analyses
- Prepare draft clinical reports
- Keep up-to-date with publications and databases related to genetic variation
- Participate in the development and implement of new technologies
- Serve as a resource to the laboratory for updated scientific information for genetics and genomics
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation of data generated and work performed with opportunities to contribute to academic activities
- Become familiar with the Quality Management System and laboratory accreditation requirements to ensure quality parameters and safety guidelines are followed
Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in genetics, molecular biology and/or bioinformatics, or related field
- Experience with human genomic data in a clinical or research setting
- Demonstrated strong analytical and scientific competence with genetics concepts and problem solving
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and ability to develop effective working relationships
- Ability to be self-motivated and team player with a high degree of independence, adaptability and professionalism within a demanding work environment
