We are currently hiring an experienced Automation Specialist to support water treatment operations at a major mine site in southeast British Columbia. In this role, you will support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for new water treatment facilities while driving process control improvements across operations. You'll work closely with a high-performing, collaborative team focused on safety, innovation, and operational excellence. This position plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing advanced water treatment systems, including reverse osmosis, high-density sludge, and other integrated treatment technologies.
Role and Responsibilities
- Champion a strong safety culture by adhering to and promoting safety and environmental standards
- Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for new and existing facilities
- Lead and contribute to process control improvements that enhance safety, sustainability, and efficiency
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and control system issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional internal teams and external vendors
- Monitor system performance and provide emergency technical support as needed
- Develop and maintain documentation, standards, and best practices
- Participate in and lead Management of Change (MOC) processes
- Support integration of vendor systems into existing control infrastructure
Experience and Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical or Instrumentation Technology (Automation focus), or a degree in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering discipline
- Equivalent experience with a minimum of 5+ years in industrial automation will also be considered
- Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming in industrial process control environments
- Strong experience with Rockwell Automation and Wonderware System Platform
- Ability to interpret and develop control systems from engineering documentation (P&IDs, control narratives, function diagrams)
- Experience supporting commissioning activities and leading automation initiatives
- Solid understanding of system integration, networking, and industrial control system architecture
- Knowledge of Windows OS, virtualization, Active Directory, and networking fundamentals
- Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity principles and version/source control practices
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and reporting skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driving record
- Experience mentoring or supervising team members
- Strong project management and business analysis skills
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, evolving environment
