Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Lead Hand to join our Building Services team in Hamilton, Ontario. This hands-on, field support role will advance our mission by helping to grow our various home repair, renovation, property maintenance, and construction projects throughout the community, including Ohsweken and Six Nations of the Grand River.
Responsibilities
- Help to mobilize work sites and perform daily job planning, set-up, and maintenance activities to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
- Assist with material order, acquisition, delivery, unloading, and staging.
- Help to prepare take-offs, work schedules, and estimates.
- Operate hand and power tools and other construction equipment to safely and effectively complete assigned tasks in accord with scope, timeline, and budget.
- Participate in safety talks and adhere to health and safety legislation/regulation in all activities.
- Engage with volunteers, trades, and community partners in a friendly, supportive manner.
- Help to inspect, maintain and organize supplies, tools, and warehouse facilities to ensure efficient operations.
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of residential construction, building repair, home renovation and/or property maintenance acquired through a two-year college diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and ability to read and understand construction drawings and plans.
- Self-motivated, outgoing personality with positive attitude and desire to generate a social impact in the Hamilton community.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Ability to manage workload, take direction, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and able to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- A proactive attitude towards problem-solving, sound judgement, and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labour in a variety of work environments.
- Access to a reliable vehicle with valid G class license and clean driver's abstract.
- A clean driver's abstract and ability to pass a police check.
