We are seeking a warm, responsible, and engaging individual to serve as a part-time Senior Companion for an independent older adult living in Newton, near 72nd and 138th Streets. This is a completely non-medical, companion-focused role designed to provide friendly social interaction, mental stimulation, and light logistical support.
This position is a fantastic fit for a university or college student (particularly those studying Care Aid, Nursing, OT or PT, Social Work, or Kinesiology) looking for a meaningful, flexible job that makes a genuine difference in a senior's day-to-day life.
Key Responsibilities
Your main goal is to provide engaging companionship and a helping hand. Daily activities may include:
- Social Engagement: Enjoying friendly conversation, playing card/board games, discussing current events, or sharing music.
- Outings & Exercise: Accompanying the senior on gentle walks in the neighborhood
- Light Household Help: Assisting with simple tasks like organizing, prepping a light meal or snack, or watering plants.
What We Are Looking For
- Personality: You are patient, an active listener, empathetic, and possess a good sense of humor.
- Reliability: Dependable, punctual, and communicative regarding schedules.
- Background Check: Willingness to undergo a standard Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector Check prior to starting.
Schedule & Flexibility
We understand that your course load changes semester to semester. We are looking to fill approximately 15 hours per week, split into 3-hour blocks, 3 days a week. There may be some flexibility in terms of the specific hours, but late afternoon into the early evening is required.
Pay: $18.25-$18.50 per hour
