Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Elementary School Teacher to foster a positive and engaging learning environment for young students. The ideal candidate will have a passion for early childhood education, strong communication skills, and experience working with children of diverse needs. This role involves developing and implementing age-appropriate lesson plans, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues and parents to support student success. Candidates with experience in special education, working with individuals with disabilities, and instructional design are highly valued. The teacher will utilize various educational tools, including Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Google Classroom and PowerSchool, to enhance classroom instruction and student engagement.
Teachers must either have or be able to obtain a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate by August 1, 2026. A relevant 4-year bachelor’s degree, as well as completion of a teaching practicum or equivalent is required. Applicants must adhere to or be familiar with the Shi‘a Islamic faith, understanding its teachings and principles.
We offer competitive wages similar to the pay grid used by Edmonton Public Schools based on years of education and teaching experience (including a 3% increase if the contract is renewed for the 2027 school year).
This is a fixed-term contract starting August 12, 2026m and ending on June 25, 2027.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with curriculum standards in subjects such as Math, Writing, and other core areas.
- Utilize LMS platforms to organize lesson plans, track student progress, and communicate with students and parents.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, including those requiring special education support or working with individuals with disabilities.
- Create a nurturing classroom environment that promotes social-emotional development and positive behavior.
- Assess student performance regularly through formative and summative evaluations; provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Incorporate instructional design principles to develop innovative teaching materials and activities that cater to different learning styles.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, school events, and professional development initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and other relevant student information.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to early childhood education, classroom management, and inclusive teaching practices.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, behavioral concerns, and upcoming events.
Experience
- Prior classroom experience in elementary education is required; experience working with children from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
- Knowledge of LMS platforms for educational management is highly desirable.
- Experience in special education or working with individuals with disabilities will be considered an asset.
- Background in early childhood education or related certifications is advantageous.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, patience, creativity, and the ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs.
