Job Summary
The mission of Facilities Management (FM) is to provide the Dalhousie community with an inviting, safe and sustainable environment which supports and enhances an inspiring experience in learning, living, working and research. Facilities Management is an innovative team of motivated professionals recognized for excellence in facilities management. Reporting to the Trades Services Manager, the Campus Maintenance Supervisor, Client Services oversees corrective maintenance, emergency response, trades staff, and contractor activities to ensure the continued safety, functionality, and operational continuity of campus facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises corrective maintenance and repair work; manages work orders, building systems, contractor activities, and operational improvements across the assigned campus zone.
- Leads and supervises trades and maintenance staff, supports recruitment, performance management, training, scheduling, and promotes a safe, inclusive, and high-performing work environment.
- Serves as a primary Facilities Management responder and Incident Management Team representative, coordinating responses to emergencies, safety incidents, and infrastructure failures.
- Monitors zone budgets, manages maintenance expenditures, forecasts resource requirements, and ensures compliance with procurement and financial policies.
- Acts as the primary contact for utilities, contractors, regulators, and insurers; oversees contracted work, procurement activities, and external relationships.
- Identifies infrastructure vulnerabilities, supports regulatory compliance, maintains building safety and operational continuity, and contributes to long-term asset management and institutional risk mitigation. (This responsibility is embedded throughout the role, particularly within maintenance operations, emergency response, and stakeholder management sections.)

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree with a post-secondary credential in a relevant technical discipline, such as a Red Seal certification, diploma in Construction Management, Building Maintenance Technology, Facilities Management, or Project Management, with seven years of progressive experience in building maintenance, construction management, or a closely related field, including a minimum of three years’ in a supervisory or leadership role (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
- Demonstrated experience managing unionized tradespeople and/or contractors in a complex, multi-facility operational environment.
- Solid working knowledge of building systems including electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation.
- Experience with Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS) or similar computerized maintenance management platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and procurement processes in accordance with institutional guidelines.
Assets
- Experience in emergency response, life safety management, or critical infrastructure operations in a facilities context.
