We are currently seeking a Civil Construction Surveyor to join our team based out of our Whitecourt office. This is a full-time permanent position that is focused on the planning and development of construction projects and habitat restorations. This position strategically leverages a vast amount of ecological spatial field data to implement restoration plans for regulatory compliance at the landscape level. Project work is rewarding, team based, safety driven and is completed for the energy and forest sectors throughout the province.

Lead field survey crews on construction, restoration, topographic, and watercourse crossing projects;

Complete RTK/GNSS, robotic total station, survey level, and control surveys;

Establish, verify, and maintain horizontal and vertical control;

Complete pre-construction layout, construction checks, and post-construction as-built surveys;

Support topographic surveys for roads, access routes, crossings, restoration areas, and construction sites;

Prepare clear field notes, sketches, photos, control records, and survey documentation;

Coordinate with project managers, environmental staff, construction crews, and drafting/data processing staff;

Mentor junior field staff and help develop consistent survey procedures, field codes, checklists, and data collection standards.

Assist with/conduct drone-based LiDAR, static LiDAR, and mobile/SLAM LiDAR data collection;

Set and survey ground control points for LiDAR and photogrammetry projects.

Complete or assist with electromagnetic utility locating where training and authorization are in place.

Coordinate utility locate requests and review available utility records before field work.

Prepare clear utility sketches, field notes, photos, and survey records

Experience working as a Survey Crew Chief, Surveyor, or Senior Survey Technologist;

Strong working knowledge of RTK/GNSS, total stations, data collectors, survey levels, and field survey procedures;Ability to read and interpret design drawings, construction plans, grading information, surfaces, alignments, and field sketches;

Experience with Trimble equipment and Trimble Business Center, or similar software is considered an asset;Experience with drone LiDAR, static LiDAR, mobile LiDAR, point clouds, or reality capture workflows is considered an asset;

Experience with electromagnetic line locating or utility mapping is considered an asset;

Strong communication, organization, and field documentation skills;

Ability to work independently and lead a small field crew;

Willingness to travel and work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions;

Safety tickets such as First Aid, H2S Alive, CSTS/ground disturbance, wildlife awareness, or similar training;

Experience with construction or supervision of road building, right-of-way and well site development, clearing and harvesting operations, culvert and bridge installations;

Knowledge of vegetation, wetland, watercourse, wildlife and soils spatial data collection;

University Degree or technical diploma in Geomatics or related field;

Professional registration or eligibility in one of Alberta’s Professional Regulatory Organizations is seen as an asset;Knowledge of environmental reclamation and restorations is seen as an asset;

Minimum experience of 10 years;

Strong analytical and reporting skills;

Ability to maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract;

Ability to move a variety of initiatives forward at the same time;

Ability to demonstrate a safety and customer service focus.
