The Position:
We are looking for an experienced and driven Finance Manager to lead our accounting team in the Americas and support the Controller in delivering timely, accurate financial reporting under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Reporting to the Controller and managing a team of accountants, the successful candidate will be accountable for the final trial balances of a diverse portfolio of entities and the review of the team's working papers, journal entries, and reconciliations, while assisting the Controller with the group consolidation of multi-functional-currency entities. This is a hands-on leadership role for a technically strong CPA who thrives in a fast-paced environment and gets excited about new technical accounting challenges. This is a full-time, on-site position based in our Calgary office.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Month-End Close
· Be accountable and responsible for the final trial balances of a diverse portfolio of entities.
· Review monthly working papers prepared by the team and approve journal entries.
· Prepare the monthly variance analysis explaining changes of actuals to budgeted balances and month-over-month movements, including the supporting commentary required for executive presentation.
· Investigate and reconcile balances, such as related party transactions, with minimal guidance.
· Review and provide comments on proper account and subaccount classifications.
· Ensure project time is captured accurately and follow up with stakeholders in other departments where delays exist.
· Assist the Controller with the group consolidation of multi-functional-currency entities.
Day-to-Day Operations
· Manage and oversee the team responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations by directing, reviewing, and supporting their work and addressing ah hoc requests.
· Oversee the team's day-to-day processing of the revenue and receivables cycle.
· Oversee the team's day-to-day processing of the purchases-to-payables cycle.
Technical Accounting
· Assist with the preparation of complex IFRS accounting memos.
· Apply strong technical judgment to complex transactions such as expected credit losses, leases, business combinations, assets held for sale, goodwill and intangible assets.
· Apply extensive IFRS 15 knowledge across the company's different revenue streams.
· Ensure all entries are recorded to the proper accounts and sub-accounts in adherence to the applicable accounting rules and company policies.
Corporate Tax
· Responsible for the preparation of the deferred income tax provision.
· Responsible for the reconciliation of the current income tax transactions throughout the month.
· Review the monthly GST and VAT submissions prepared by the team.
· Act as the key contact for correspondence with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and other tax authorities as required.
Audit
· Assist with the fiscal year-end audit by ensuring all working papers are tied out and up to standard.
· Assist with the preparation and tie-out of the consolidated financial statements, including financial statement notes and cash flow proofs.
· Act as one of the key contacts for correspondence with the external auditors.
Team Leadership
· Be ultimately responsible for the team's work and the final team deliverable to the Controller, while coaching and managing the team to run effectively and cohesively together.
· Effectively manage any team member issues and resolutions.
· Create a positive and efficient work environment.
· Be proactive in proposing solutions to the Controller after assessing the best approach.
Required Education and Experience:
· Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with a minimum of 4+ years of post-designation experience.
· Completed the CPA program while articling in the external audit practice of a recognized public accounting firm.
· Prior experience managing a team of accountants.
· Extensive IFRS knowledge and experience.
· Experience with multi-functional-currency consolidation.
· Experience gained in industry is an asset.
Required Skills and Competencies:

· Extensive knowledge of the revenue and receivables cycle and the purchases-to-payables cycle.
· Strong IFRS technical experience.
· A fast learner who is adaptable to change.
· Willing to work in a fast-paced environment and excited by new technical accounting challenges.
· Able to diligently review working papers and journal entries and coach other team members.
· Able to manage their own schedule and proactively take initiative with minimal guidance.
· Extremely organized and deadline driven.
