Operations Supervisor – Full Time

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Operations Supervisor to help lead our Production team at our Waterloo location.
Summary of Role
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production operations with a strong focus on manufacturing efficiency, equipment performance, product quality, and team execution. This role is hands-on and floor-focused, supporting production flow across meat processing and smokehouse operations while ensuring compliance with food safety, CFIA, and SQF standards.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of food manufacturing equipment, understands how to manage production bottlenecks, and can lead teams while solving problems in real time.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations
- Oversee daily production activities across meat processing and smokehouse operations
- Coordinate workflow to ensure labour, materials, and equipment are ready to support production targets
- Monitor throughput, downtime, and production efficiency to ensure schedules are achieved
- Identify bottlenecks and implement practical solutions to improve output and reduce waste
- Support specialty product production including sausages, smoked meats, bacon, and jerky programs
Equipment & Technical Oversight
- Monitor production machinery performance and respond quickly to operational issues
- Troubleshoot equipment-related production challenges and escalate major repairs when required
- Work closely with Maintenance to coordinate preventative maintenance and minimize downtime
- Ensure all tools, machinery, PPE, and production equipment are clean, safe, and operating properly
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, labour utilization, and equipment performance
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and support Production Associates and Lead Hands to ensure productivity and accountability
- Provide coaching, task direction, and day-to-day floor leadership
- Foster a strong team culture built on accountability, communication, and operational discipline
- Maintain high standards for attendance, performance, and workplace safety
Food Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with CFIA, SQF, sanitation, safe food handling, and workplace safety standards
- Verify product integrity, freshness, labeling accuracy, and product rotation
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to address deviations and uphold product standards
- Maintain strong documentation and production records to support traceability and audits
Inventory & Administration
- Assist with raw material receiving and verification for count, condition, and suitability
- Support inventory counts and investigate production-related discrepancies
- Maintain accurate production reporting and operational documentation
- Escalate complex operational issues as needed
Qualifications
- Experience in food manufacturing or meat processing required
- Strong understanding of food production equipment, machinery, and manufacturing flow required
- Experience with smokehouses or meat processing systems strongly preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of HACCP, CFIA, and SQF requirements strongly preferred
- Previous supervisory, lead hand, or floor leadership experience preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in a hands-on production environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in refrigerated production environments
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
- Strong manual dexterity and ability to work safely around production equipment
Work Schedule
Monday to Friday, day shift with flexible start and finish times based on production requirements.
Compensation
$23.00 – $25.00 per hour
