About the Role
As an Engineered Wood Product Designer, you’ll be responsible for designing floor systems for residential housing packages – from single-family homes to multi-family complexes. You’ll interpret architectural and structural blueprints, apply your knowledge of local building codes and load transfer principles, and produce accurate, detailed designs that our customers and Sales team can count on.
This is a technical, detail-oriented role that requires strong math skills, design software proficiency, and a solid understanding of framing and construction practices. You’ll work closely with the Sales team and customers to deliver accurate designs and provide expert technical support throughout the process.
What You’ll Be Doing

Designing floor systems for jobs and quotes ranging from single-family residences to multi-family complexes

Interpreting architectural and structural blueprints to produce accurate TJI layouts and shop drawings

Preparing shop drawings for products and providing technical assistance to customers and the Sales team

Creating orders for sales personnel based on completed designs

Preparing TJI layouts for shipments

Organizing and maintaining the job list, and updating as-built drawings as required

Collaborating closely with the Sales team and customers to ensure designs meet project needs and timelines

Communicating technical information clearly to both trade professionals and customers who may be less familiar with design documentation

Always working in compliance with WorkSafeBC Standards
What We’re Looking For
Here’s what you’ll need to be successful in this role:

Minimum 1 year of experience reading and interpreting blueprints and structural working drawings

Minimum 1 year of experience with AutoCAD and/or floor design software

Background in design, engineering technology, or related field

Solid knowledge of framing and construction practices, load transfer principles, and local building codes

Strong math skills – accuracy in calculations is critical in this role

Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to design and documentation

Strong written and verbal communication skills – you can explain technical concepts clearly to customers, sales staff, and engineers alike
-
A collaborative mindset – you work well with sales, customers, and internal teams to get the job done right

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Experience with engineered wood products (such as TJI joists, LVL, or similar) is a strong asset
