Job Summary: The South Indian Cuisine Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and producing authentic vegetarian South Indian dishes in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This role requires hands-on experience with traditional ingredients, specialized equipment, and authentic cooking techniques used in South Indian cuisine. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong culinary skills, efficiency, and a commitment to delivering high-quality food while preserving the rich flavors and traditions of South Indian cuisine.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook authentic South Indian cuisine, with a focus on vegetarian specialty dishes such as dosas, idlis, vadas, uttapams, sambar, and other traditional menu items, using authentic ingredients, recipes, and cooking techniques;
- Ensure authentic preparation methods are followed using traditional South Indian spices, ingredients, cooking techniques and specialty equipment;
- Modify dishes as required to accommodate customer dietary restrictions, food allergies, and special requests;
- Prepare dishes according to recipes, portioning, and presentation guidelines to maintain food quality and consistency;
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure customer orders are prepared efficiently and served in a timely manner;
- Assist with scaling recipes and preparing dishes for large catering orders while ensuring consistency, quality, and timely execution;
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients, spices, batters, and kitchen supplies, and assist with ordering when stock is low;
- Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and storage procedures to ensure food safety compliance;
- Clean, maintain, and ensure proper functioning of specialized kitchen equipment and workstations;
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and compliance with health and safety regulations in kitchen and storage areas; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills Requirements:
- Completion of secondary school is required;
- At least two (2) years of prior work experience as a Cook is required;
- Knowledge of and experience in preparing and cooking South Indian cuisine is required;
- Familiarity in South Indian vegetarian cuisine will be considered an asset, but not required;
- Fluency in verbal English is required;
- Must be dependable, reliable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment; and
- Must have a professional attitude and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
