Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Community Programs and Supports, the Bus Driver has the overall responsibility for the safety and security of consumers who are deafblind while they are boarding, exiting and travelling on the bus at Canadian Helen Keller Centre (CHKC). In addition, they will be responsible for the safe operation of the bus and ensure it is in proper driving condition, at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management and Quality Assurance:
- Greets, interacts and assists with consumers while getting on or off the bus.
- Assists consumers who use wheelchairs with entering and exiting the vehicle.
- Ensures all mobility devices are safely loaded and secure.
- Reports any incidents that occur with consumers while using the bus in a timely manner.
- Reports any defects, accidents or problems with the bus in a timely manner.
- Be on time to pick up and drop off consumers for various outings such as but not limited to: Community outings, programs, shuttle between locations, shopping trips.
Finance and Information Management:
- Submit any expenses to your supervisor for approval.
Community Relations:
- Advocates for persons who are deafblind.
Qualifications and skill requirements:
- Must possess a valid “F” class driver license with a clear driving record.
- Possesses strong time management skills and be able to work independently with little supervision.
- Must be customer service focused and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Working experience in the deafblind community is an asset.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with an ability to nurture stakeholder relationships.
- Knowledge of ASL an asset.
- French language skills considered an asset.
