We are seeking a full-time Senior Litigation Paralegal. This is a role for a paralegal who has "seen it all" in the Alberta court system.
Role Description
We operate a busy litigation practice where deadlines, procedural accuracy, and thorough due diligence are important. The ideal candidate will have an approach that is clear, manageable, and accessible as possible for clients, and meeting litigation timelines.
This role requires an adaptable, organized Legal Assistant who can manage scheduling and stay current with changing court administrative procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Litigation Support: Prepare as required for Filing pleadings at the Court of King's Bench, Alberta Court of Justice, and Alberta Court of Appeal.
- Court Navigation: Manage court filings and service requirements in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Court and Court of Appeal Rules.
- Administrative Support: Lead the administrative and file management aspect of a file through its lifetime.
- File Administration: Manage the financial lifecycle of a file within our practice management software, including time entry, disbursements, and reviewing pre-bills.
- People skills: Liaising with clients, clerks, opposing counsel, experts, and contractors to our firm (our tech support team, office management, bookkeeper, accountants).
Qualifications
- Senior Experience: 6 – 10+ years of paralegal experience within litigation practice in Alberta.
- Team Experience: Proven experience working within a team, coordinating schedules, and managing daily workflows.
- Court System Knowledge: Comprehensive procedural understanding of the Alberta Court of Justice, Court of King’s Bench, and the Court of Appeal.
- Digital Literacy: Strong computer skills. You must be comfortable with technology, proficient with Microsoft 365 basics, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and practice management software (PCLaw, CLIO or equivalent). Prior experience with legal accounting or practice management systems.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to learn and master new administrative guidelines, software or digital platforms as may arise due to changing technology used by the Courts and related bodies.
