As a Veterinary Technologist Team Lead, you are a steady presence on the floor— leading from within the team, not above it. You help bring structure to chaos, support critical decision-making in real time, and ensure patients receive timely, high-quality care in a fast-moving, high-acuity environment. Leadership & Communication
- Minimum 1 year of experience leading a team of Registered Veterinary Technologists
- Demonstrates strong communication skills and a genuine ability to connect with others
- Promotes hospital values of education, integrity, and quality care
- Approaches conflict with curiosity, professionalism, and compassion
- Participates in weekly leadership meetings
- Collaborates closely with the co-lead to ensure consistency across teams and shifts
- Conducts regular team engagement, including: Weekly RVT team huddles One-on-one check-ins with team members
- Maintains organization, structure, and a safe and positive team environment in a fast-paced ER setting
- Promotes collaboration across departments, with a strong focus on integration with reception
Education & Policy
- Supports and fosters individual interests and professional growth within the RVT team
- Encourages and helps coordinate continuing education initiatives
- Actively pursues ongoing leadership development
Ensures hospital policies align with current best practices and provincial guidelines
- Contributes to the development and refinement of policies that support patient safety and hospital values
Administrative Responsibilities
- Collaborates with co-lead to create and maintain the RVT schedule
- Oversees controlled drug log compliance
- Oversees regular audits of radiology logs
- Participates in PIPS inspections and related quality initiatives
- Supports operational consistency through documentation and process improvement
Schedule Commitment
- Rotating 4-on / 4-off schedule, plus participation in weekly leadership meetings • Additional time as needed for collaboration with leadership team
- Rotates between day and swing shifts to maintain visibility across all teams, including overnight
- Maintains reasonable availability via email on days off for urgent matters
