Registered Practical Nurses are responsible for practicing within their scope to provide safe, competent, ethical, evidenced based patient care using professional knowledge and critical thinking while meeting practice standards of the College of Nurses and the Regulated Health Professions Act.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Assesses the health status of assigned patients on the unit as outlined in the Standards of Nursing Practice.
2. Works with the patient and family/caregivers to formulate a patient centered plan of care.
3. Advocates for patients to achieve optimal patient outcomes within Expected Length of Stay.
4. Utilizes time management skills to organize plan and provide care to patients.
5. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team, promoting an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
6. Participates in problem solving, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
7. Expectation to attend work on a regular basis for all shifts including Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays, and On Call
Qualifications:
- Current Certificate of Competence as an R.P.N. required.
- Current CPR / BCLS Certificate required.
- Post-diploma perioperative certificate required
- Knowledge of equipment and instruments, setting surgical cases and responsibilities when scrubbed required
- Excellent physical assessment skills
- Recent OR nursing experience in the scrub role, Including total joint arthroplasty within the last two years required.
- Working knowledge of the Cerner documentation platform including SurgiNet and Powerchart preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and function both independently and interdependently with the interprofessional care team
- Satisfactory vulnerable person’s sector criminal background check required.
- Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance, be reliable and punctual with a satisfactory performance appraisal.
- Documented commitment to continuing education through inservice, staff meetings and self-motivated learning.

Salary Range: $38.50/hr - $40.05/hr
