Marketing Specialist

About the Role
The Marketing Specialist is a highly technical, hands-on marketing professional who executes FEC’s digital marketing, communications, and event promotion activities. This role is responsible for bringing our brand to life across email, social media, web, podcasts and events, with a strong emphasis on platform proficiency and content execution. The Marketing Specialist works closely with the broader FEC team and reports to the Marketing Director.
Key Responsibilities
Email Marketing
- Monthly Compass Newsletter & Weekly E-Blasts: Build, schedule, and send email campaigns using Mailchimp (with a planned migration to HubSpot). Manage list segmentation, templates, and performance tracking.
Design & Visual Content
- Canva Design: Create event graphics, promotional materials, social assets, and branded content using Canva. An understanding of the Adobe suite is an asset, though this is not a design role.
- PowerPoint Slide decks: events often need slide decks to accompany content. PowerPoint or Keynote design experience is an asset.
Website & Platform Management
- WordPress & JotForm: Manage ongoing website updates, event registration forms, and landing pages in WordPress and JotForm, with a planned transition to HubSpot.
- Your Membership: Post event listings, manage member-facing content, and coordinate e-blasts and communications through the Your Membership platform. (no previous knowledge needed)
Social Media
- Calendar & Planning: Build and maintain a monthly social media content calendar aligned with FEC’s programs, events, and communications priorities.
- Posting & Community Engagement: Publish content across FEC’s social platforms, respond to community interactions, and monitor performance.
Podcast Development
- Production & Editing: Develop, manage, and edit FEC’s podcast using Zencastr. The coordinator does not need to appear on-mic but is responsible for all production, editing, and publishing workflows.
Event Marketing
- Symposium & Summit of Minds: Support marketing execution for FEC’s bi-annual flagship events, including event e-blasts, social promotion, signage, presentation slide decks, registration marketing, and event app management.
Digital Marketing
- Google & Linkedin Ads: basic understanding of ads management is an asset.
- SEO: basic understanding of how SEO works is an asset.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in marketing or digital communications, with a strong technical foundation.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Mailchimp and/or HubSpot for email marketing.
- Hands-on experience with Canva for content creation and design.
- Working knowledge of WordPress for content management and website updates.
- Familiarity with the Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.); advanced design skills not required.
- Experience managing social media platforms and building content calendars.
- Comfortable working across multiple platforms and tools simultaneously.
- Experience with podcast production tools, particularly Zencastr, is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with JotForm, Your Membership, or similar event/membership platforms is an asset but not needed.
- Comfort using a project management tool like Asana.
- Comfort in Teams and Microsoft 360 Suite
- Previous experience in HubSpot Marketing, Sales and CMS is a strong asset
- Proficiency in using AI (Claude)
