We are a corrugated packaging manufacturer serving major Alberta accounts across the food, retail, distribution, and industrial sectors. We are seeking a part-time Structural Designer to join our Calgary team and contribute to the design of custom corrugated boxes, displays, and packaging solutions for clients ranging from regional businesses to national brands.
This is a hands-on, production-oriented role. Your designs will move directly from CAD into manufacturing and into the hands of our customers — from one-off prototypes to full production runs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design corrugated boxes, displays, inserts, and custom packaging based on customer specifications, sketches, or sample products
- Produce production-ready CAD files, including dielines, 3D mockups, and sample reports
- Collaborate with sales representatives and customers to refine designs, resolve fit and performance issues, and propose alternatives
- Manage a concurrent queue of design requests, typically five to fifteen active projects
- Coordinate with the manufacturing team through to first-article approval
- Build and maintain a library of standard designs to support repeat work and improve turnaround times

CANDIDATE PROFILE
We are looking for a CAD designer with strong fundamentals and an interest in learning the corrugated packaging discipline. Direct corrugated experience is a strong asset, but it is not a requirement — we are prepared to provide training in ArtiosCAD and corrugated-specific conventions for the right candidate.
REQUIRED:
Solid CAD fundamentals from a relevant industry, such as:
- Mechanical or industrial drafting (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360)
- Architectural drafting (AutoCAD, Revit)
- Oil and gas piping, structural, or electrical CAD
- Sheet metal or fabrication design
- Graphic design with structural or dieline experience (Adobe Illustrator, Esko)
Plus:
- Strong attention to detail and precision in technical drawings
- Willingness to engage with physical prototyping as part of the design process
- Comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects
- Ability to communicate effectively with sales representatives, customers, and production staff
PREFERRED (but not required):
- Prior experience in corrugated, folding carton, or rigid box manufacturing
- Working knowledge of ArtiosCAD or comparable software (Kongsberg, Esko Studio, Impact CAD)
- Familiarity with board grades, flute profiles (B, C, E, BC), and the relationship between design choices, cost, and performance
- Understanding of die-cutting, gluing, and converting equipment, and design for manufacturability
- Experience with point-of-purchase displays, retail-ready packaging, or food-grade applications
We welcome applications from recent graduates of relevant programs, including SAIT's CAD Technician, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, and Graphic Communications and Print Technology, as well as NAIT's Engineering Design Technology.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- This is an on-site position. Designs require physical prototyping against real samples and equipment, so remote work is not available
- Candidates whose experience is limited to graphic design (logos, marketing collateral, digital assets) without structural or dieline work are unlikely to be a fit
- We are hiring for fit and capability rather than for a specific seniority level
================================================================
WHAT WE OFFER
- Stable, predictable hours in an established industry
- Mentorship from experienced designers and a sales team that values design quality
- Direct ownership of projects from brief through to first article
- Modern equipment and licensed software
- The opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a focused design function

HOW TO APPLY
Please submit:
1. Resume (PDF preferred)
2. Portfolio or work samples — three to five pieces is sufficient. Please include CAD work that demonstrates drafting precision and attention to detail. If you have any structural packaging or dieline work, please include it.
3. A brief cover note (three to five sentences) describing your CAD background, your weekly availability and preferred schedule, and your interest in this specific role.
Submit applications to: [email protected]
We respond to all applicants within five business days. First-round conversations are conducted by phone and typically last twenty minutes.
