The Laboratory Medicine Department at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH), part of Interior Health, has an opportunity for a hematopathologist to join its growing hematopathology division.
KGH is a regional referral hospital providing specialized surgical, medical, and oncology services to 500,000 people and is the regional trauma and main cardiac services/surgery centre. KGH is also situated adjacent to the BCCA-Kelowna centre for the Interior, which provides medical and radiation oncology services and brachytherapy for a range of oncologic conditions.
Locally, there are six hematologists providing local and regional outpatient consultation services. KGH also has a busy provincial referral oncology centre for the Interior (BCCA-Kelowna), including management of high-grade myeloid disorders. The successful candidate will join a laboratory faculty with 3 laboratory physicians in a dedicated hematopathology division.
This is a well-rounded, full-service hematopathology practice, and the successful candidate is expected to provide the complete scope of hematopathology service. This includes transfusion medicine (obligatory), coagulation, benign and malignant hematopathology, the procurement and interpretation of bone marrow samples, and the interpretation of tissue/lymph node biopsies for lymphoproliferative disorders (lymphoma).
In addition to these core diagnostic and clinical responsibilities, the role includes regional consultative services, teaching, and laboratory oversight and administrative duties.
Leadership development opportunities are available through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program.
