The Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to Nourishing Community and Feed Hope by providing healthy, nutritious food to those who need it most. We rely on the generosity of the community to support the work they do through the donation of food, funds and time. These donations come from individuals, families, organizations, community groups as well as various fundraising/food-raising efforts.
The Kitchen Helper supports the Central Okanagan Food Bank’s meal programs, food education activities, and farm-to-table initiatives. This role provides youth with hands-on experience in meal preparation, recipe planning, food assembly, and program support, contributing to the success of school meal programs, cooking classes, and community nutrition activities.
COFB is committed to reducing barriers to employment and strongly welcomes applicants from groups that face systemic or structural barriers. This includes Indigenous youth, racialized youth, Black youth, youth with disabilities, youth from rural or remote communities, youth from official language minority communities, and 2SLGBTQI+ youth. We aim to ensure that every young person has access to fair opportunities, skills training, and supportive supervision.
The Kitchen Helper assists the Food Educator Manager and Food Rescue Coordinator in menu planning, recipe preparation, class setup, and assembly of take-home food boxes. The role also supports farm-to-table activities, organizes community veggie boxes for partner agencies, and gathers rescued produce for meal preparation. Training is provided in safe food-handling procedures, program procedures, and digital documentation. All participants sign a confidentiality agreement before handling program materials.
This role requires reliability, interest in nutrition and food preparation, and the ability to work in a team environment. The Kitchen Helper helps ensure that meal programs and food education activities are prepared, organized, and delivered effectively.
