The Role
We are looking for an experienced CFP® professional to help us solve a good problem.
Our fee-for-service planning practice currently has a two-month waitlist, with most inquiries coming through our YouTube channel. We have more Canadians asking us for detailed retirement and tax planning than our current team can serve.
This role has two main parts:
- Building and delivering customized fee-for-service financial plans
- Helping care for a few dozen existing full-service clients
This is not a prospecting role. You will not be expected to cold-call, build a book of business or meet sales quotas. We already have the clients and the planning work. We need another capable person to help us do it exceptionally well.
What You’ll Do
You will work closely with our planning team to:
- Review tax returns, investment statements, corporate documents, pensions and insurance policies
- Build retirement projections using Snap Projections
- Model retirement dates, spending needs, withdrawal strategies and CPP/OAS timing
- Develop personal and corporate tax-planning recommendations
- Prepare planning summaries, meeting agendas and action items
- Participate in and eventually lead virtual client meetings
- Explain complex recommendations in plain English
- Respond to client questions and help implement recommendations
- Coordinate with clients’ accountants, lawyers and other professionals
- Identify planning opportunities before clients have to ask
Some fee-for-service clients will implement their plans independently. Others will ask us to continue helping them through an ongoing wealth-management relationship. You will help support that transition.
How We Work
We are a second-generation wealth-management firm that has been helping families for more than 39 years.
Our clients are generally approaching or living in retirement and have accumulated wealth across RRSPs, TFSAs, non-registered accounts, corporations, pensions and real estate. They need more than investment management. They need someone who can bring all the pieces together.
We operate as an ensemble practice. Every client is supported by multiple members of our planning, administrative and operations teams. Our operations team handles most paperwork, trading and execution, allowing our planners to focus on advice and relationships.
We do not run an emergency room. We plan ahead, share responsibility and try to avoid unnecessary fire drills.
That said, we work hard and maintain a high standard. We are looking for someone who notices problems, takes ownership and starts preparing solutions without waiting for someone else to step in.
Who We’re Looking For
You should have:
- A CFP® designation
- Current investment licensing
- At least four years of relevant financial-planning experience
- Strong retirement-income and decumulation knowledge
- The ability to read and understand personal tax returns
- Working knowledge of owner-managed corporations
- Experience using modern financial-planning software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- The ability to build relationships virtually
- A practical, client-first approach to solving problems
Experience with Snap Projections is a major asset.
Previous tax-preparation experience, advanced tax education or a CPA designation would also be valuable, but is not required.
Who This Role May Appeal To
This position may be especially attractive to an experienced planner working at a bank, credit union or traditional investment firm who is frustrated by:
- Sales quotas and product incentives
- Limited product shelves
- Being measured primarily by production
- Having too many clients to serve properly
- Financial plans that are created but rarely implemented
We care about growing, but we believe growth should come from doing excellent work for the right clients.
Your job will be to plan and serve, not prospect.
Our YouTube Channel Matters
Most new clients find us through the Willems Wealth Planning Group YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@willemswealth/videos). They arrive already familiar with our planning philosophy and the types of retirement, tax and investment strategies we discuss.
Anyone joining our team should spend time with our content and feel aligned with how we educate and serve Canadians.

Please submit your resume along with a video answering:
- Why does this role interest you?
- What experience do you have with retirement-income, tax or corporate planning?
- Which video or planning concept from our YouTube channel stood out to you, and why?
