Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring the hotel operates safely, efficiently, and reliably every day.
This leadership role oversees all aspects of hotel engineering, including preventive maintenance, building systems, life safety, utilities, energy management, capital improvement projects, contractor management, regulatory compliance, and the daily leadership of a skilled maintenance team.
Working closely with the General Manager, Director of Operations, Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Finance, and external contractors, you will help protect one of the hotel's most valuable assets while creating an environment where guests and team members can enjoy a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained property.

Maintenance Operations
- Plan, organize, and supervise the daily activities of the maintenance department in accordance with the operational requirements.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, and building systems.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs.
- Ensure all repairs are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment records.
- Coordinate maintenance work to minimize disruption to guests and other departments.
- Building Systems
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of:
- HVAC systems
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing systems
- Boilers and hot water systems
- Fire alarm and life safety systems
- Elevators (through certified contractors)
- Kitchen and laundry equipment
- Swimming pool and spa equipment (if applicable)
- Coordinate inspections and servicing by external contractors.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, hotel policies.
- Maintain compliance with fire, building, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) initiatives where applicable.
- Ensure emergency procedures and equipment are maintained and operational.
- Support a safe and respectful workplace in accordance with labour relations standards and anti-harassment policies.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance team members in accordance with hotel policies.
- Schedule staff to ensure adequate departmental coverage while respecting seniority, availability, overtime provisions, and other contractual obligations.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and recommend disciplinary action when required, in consultation with Human Resources
- Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, accountability, and respect..
Budget & Inventory Management
- Prepare and manage the departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor maintenance expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Source quotations and manage vendor relationships.
- Ensure purchasing and procurement practices comply with hotel policies
Guest Service
- Ensure maintenance issues affecting guests are resolved promptly.
- Work closely with Front Office and Housekeeping to minimize room downtime.
- Support hotel renovations and improvement projects with minimal disruption to guests and staff.
- Maintain hotel appearance and functionality to enhance guest satisfaction.
- Respond to guest concerns related to maintenance in a courteous and professional manner.
Administration
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and documentation.
- Ensure all equipment certifications and inspections are current.
- Prepare departmental reports and maintenance statistics.
- Monitor utility consumption and recommend energy-saving initiatives.
- Maintain records required for labour relations, safety compliance, and departmental reporting.
- Ensure timekeeping, attendance, and scheduling records are accurate and consistent with the collective agreement.
Qualifications
- Diploma or certification in Building Maintenance, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
- Trade certification (Electrician, Plumber, HVAC Technician, Millwright, or similar) is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's licence
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a hotel or commercial facility.
- Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Experience with hotel preventive maintenance systems and building automation systems is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and fire safety requirements.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
- Frequent walking throughout the property.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Exposure to mechanical equipment, tools, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- May be required to respond to urgent maintenance issues outside of regular hours.
Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
