Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Skidder Operator to join our dynamic team in the forestry and land management industry. In this role, you will be responsible for operating heavy-duty skidder machinery to efficiently extract logs and materials from forested areas, ensuring safety and productivity. Your expertise in equipment operation, mechanical knowledge, and landscape maintenance will be essential in supporting sustainable forestry practices and project goals. Responsibilities
- Operate skidder machinery safely and efficiently to transport logs from cutting sites to designated collection points
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety standards are met
- Assist with landscape maintenance tasks, including clearing debris, managing brush, and preparing work sites for logging operations
- Use hand tools, power tools, and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology to assist with mapping, planning, and site assessments
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and team members
- Collaborate with ground crews to coordinate logging activities and ensure smooth workflow
- Maintain detailed records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and operational logs
Experience
- Prior experience operating heavy equipment such as skidders or similar forestry machinery is highly preferred
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues
- Valid driver’s license (CDL) or equivalent certification is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to perform maintenance tasks on machinery and tools effectively
