Labourers at On Side are important team members who help rebuild and restore damaged personal and commercial property, anywhere and anytime disaster strikes. Labourers are the MVP of the restoration teams. Water damage in a home or business is one of the most stressful events our clients might ever experience. At On Side, Water Damage Technicians (WDTs) go wherever a burst pipe, blocked drain, sewer backup (yes, sometimes it’s one of those situations) or other water-related disaster calls.
What you bring…
Laborers bring a host of abilities to their work with a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:
- Experience in demolition and emergency mitigation
- Physically fit— water damage can, at times, include heavy lifting and getting into (and out of) tight places
- Understanding and experience using hand and power tools
- Mechanical aptitude— you can look at something and just know how it works
- Tech savviness (capability to learn applications and computer programs as required)
- Willingness to follow all company safety requirements including wearing full PPE as required: Full face masks require clean shave (if applicable)
- Strong people, teamwork and communication skills
- Attention to detail, ability to follow directions, reliable attendance and a safety mindset
- Valid driver’s licence, clean drivers abstract and a clean criminal record (we do check)
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:
- Experienced in construction, particularly demolition
- WHMIS
- First Aid
Of Note
Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement. Meaning you’ll work regular weekday hours and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.

Application question(s):
- Do you have any experience with demolition? If yes, please describe what you have demolished and tools you have used.
- Will you wear the proper PPE provided for the job? You will be required to wear full Tyvek suits and/or half or full-face masks for certain jobs. Masks require a person to be clean shaven (if that applies to you).
- Please indicate whether you have experience with in‑home repairs or carpentry work and provide a brief description.
- Will you practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite: Work with a "clean as you go" mentality?
- Are you able to work a rotating on call schedule, responding to emergency calls after regular hours? This on call work is in addition to your scheduled daytime hours, and premium pay as well as overtime will be provided.
- This job requires physical fitness, including lifting 50 lbs, climbing stairs, and performing repetitive heavy lifting such as moving furniture and boxes. Please explain your physical capability to meet these requirements.

- Restoration work can be dirty. Flooded basements and sewer backups are the norm. Are you able and willing to work in these conditions?
- Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Do you have basic computer and/or tablet/iPad experience? Are you comfortable operating a phone to navigate through applications and record info as instructed?
- Describe your experience with hand and power tools. If you’re new to power tools, are you willing to learn? Please note any experience with reciprocating saws, circular saws, oscillating tools, hammer drills, impact drivers, and drills.
Experience:
- demolition: 1 year (preferred)
- construction: 1 year (preferred)
