Job Duties
- Read and interpret blueprints, formwork drawings and engineered shop drawings to determine concrete forming specifications and calculate material requirements
- Prepare formwork layouts for footings, foundation walls, columns, slabs and suspended decks in conformance with the BC Building Code and engineered formwork designs, using measuring and levelling tools
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join formwork materials made of wood, plywood, wood substitutes, aluminum and modular panel systems (e.g., gang forms, fly forms)
- Build, erect, align, plumb and brace vertical and horizontal concrete formwork, including foundations, walls, columns, beams, stairs and suspended slabs
- Install shoring, reshoring, falsework and scaffolding systems to support formwork and freshly placed concrete
- Set embedded items, blockouts, sleeves, anchor bolts and hardware within forms prior to concrete placement
- Strip, clean, oil, repair and maintain formwork components and panels for reuse on subsequent pours
- Inspect formwork before and during concrete pours to ensure dimensional accuracy, stability and compliance with safety standards, including WorkSafeBC requirements
- Supervise apprentices, labourers and other construction workers on forming crews
- May prepare material take-offs and cost estimates for forming packages
