Field Service Technician – ScaleAQ North America

As part of our continued growth in North America, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Technician to join our team based in Saint John, NB.
Position Overview
The Field Service Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of advanced aquaculture systems, with a strong focus on automation, instrumentation, and integrated control systems. This role requires extensive fieldwork and direct engagement with customers to ensure optimal system performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, mechanical, and automated systems, including feeding systems, camera systems, and sensor-based instrumentation
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to PLC-controlled systems, automation networks, and software platforms
- Perform calibration, maintenance, and validation of instrumentation devices such as sensors, transmitters, and monitoring equipment
- Interpret and work from electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control system documentation
- Provide technical support, training, and guidance to customers on system operation, automation features, and best practices
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical reports, service documentation, and system logs
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to support continuous improvement of automation and instrumentation systems
- Maintain up to date knowledge of ScaleAQ products, emerging technologies, and industry standards
- Travel to and work at sea-based sites up to 80% of the time
- Participate in an on-call rotation for weekend and holiday support
- Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental procedures in all work environments
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Trade certification or technical training in industrial electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, or engineering technology, with strong aptitude in IT and computer systems
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot automated systems, instrumentation, and control processes
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and control diagrams
- Must be comfortable working independently and collaboratively in demanding settings
- The ability and willingness to work in other Provinces and the United States
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Commitment to safe work practices, particularly in marine and industrial environments
Desirable
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of automation, instrumentation, networking, and mechanical/electrical systems experience
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols, LAN/WLAN networks, and remote monitoring systems
- Familiarity with motor control systems
- Experience with PLC programming, SCADA systems, or industrial automation platforms
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card or other marine-related certifications
