About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a wonderful woman in Rockburn who is experiencing memory changes and needs support to remain safely in her home. She's a strong, independent lady who is adjusting to receiving care for the first time. Her appetite has improved significantly with consistent support, and she's now telling her family when she's hungry instead of skipping meals. She enjoys sitting on her outdoor porch in the afternoons around 3-4 PM and benefits from gentle encouragement to walk outside with supervision, as she shuffles when walking. She can handle some personal care independently but may need assistance on difficult days, particularly with tasks like changing clothes where she's experienced falls in the past.
Responsibilities:
- Arrive at 11 AM to check on morning routine and ensure medications have been taken
- Prepare and serve lunch, ensuring proper nutrition throughout the day
- Provide supervision during outdoor time on the porch and assist with short walks
- Prepare and serve dinner by 6 PM
- Monitor daily vital signs, particularly blood pressure, as she's currently regulating medication
- Provide standby assistance during evening routine and dressing as needed
- Light tidying and household tasks
- Offer memory prompts, redirection, and companionship to address loneliness
- Take initiative and communicate clearly with family about daily observations
What We're Looking For:
- Experience supporting clients with memory changes and cognitive decline
- Patient, calm demeanor with ability to make the client feel comfortable
- Strong observational skills to assess when additional assistance is needed
- Reliable and consistent presence
- Ability to bring positive energy while respecting independence
- Clear communication with family members
- Flexibility to expand hours as care needs evolve, potentially progressing to overnight care
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 11 AM to 6-7 PM to start. This schedule will evolve based on the client's needs and caregiver feedback, with expectation of expanding to full days and eventually seven days per week. The family is committed to keeping their mother at home as long as safely possible.
