The Site Maintenance & Construction Assistant will play a key role in maintaining and improving the facilities and infrastructure that support the Northern Spotted Owl Breeding Program (NSOBP). The employee will shadow the NSOBP Site Maintenance Manager. Duties will include general facility maintenance, enclosure repairs, vegetation management, invasive species removal, grass cutting, trail and road maintenance, fence construction and repairs, carpentry, and assisting with the design and construction of new owl habitats and support facilities. Employees will safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery, including UTVs, mowers, power tools, and other site equipment.
Work is primarily outdoors and will involve physically demanding tasks in a variety of weather conditions. Employees must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team while following safety protocols and project plans.

Animal Care Support
Employees may work in proximity to owls, rodents, and other animals but will not be primarily responsible for animal husbandry duties.
Wages, Accommodation and Working Conditions
The Site Maintenance & Construction Employee will be paid $24-$28/hr depending on experience up to 40 hours per week. Part-time and weekend hours are available for the right candidate.
Employees are required to have independent housing and reliable transportation to the facility in Langley. Mileage will be reimbursed for approved work-related travel. Employees must provide appropriate work clothing and weather-appropriate outdoor gear. The NSOBP is a non-smoking work environment.
Essential Qualifications
- Experience in construction, facility maintenance, landscaping, carpentry, or a related field.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting 50 lbs or more regularly.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Experience safely operating hand and power tools.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Eligible to work in Canada at the time of application.
- Valid BC driver's license.
- Comfortable driving work vehicles, including trucks and UTVs.
- Comfortable working at heights and safely using ladders and elevated work platforms, including carrying tools, equipment, and construction materials while climbing and working on ladders.
Asset Qualifications
- Experience with fencing, carpentry, or general construction.
- Experience operating landscaping or grounds maintenance equipment such as weedwhackers or lawnmowers.
- Experience driving pickup trucks, farm equipment, and towing equipment trailers.
- Experience maintaining rural properties, farms, or wildlife facilities.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience performing basic equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Chainsaw certification or experience.
- Occupational First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and safe equipment operation.
