Description of Position
The Accountant supports the financial operations of Community Living Mississauga by ensuring accurate accounting, timely financial reporting, and compliance with organizational, legislative, and funder requirements. This role supports the Finance team and works closely with internal stakeholders across the organization.
Description of Duties
Accounting & Financial Operations
Maintain monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations
Prepare and post journal entries
Perform full-cycle accounting and general ledger maintenance
Process designated accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
Review weekly cheque and EFT payments for accuracy
Liaise with financial institutions and support banking activities

Budgeting, Reporting & Analysis
Assist with preparation of the annual operating budget
Prepare internal and external financial reports, including Passport One reports
Analyze financial data such as costs, revenues, cash flow, and salary/FTE information
Monitor expenditures for assigned cost centres
Audit & Compliance
Prepare audit working papers and supporting documentation
Respond to audit inquiries and support the annual audit process
Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and funder requirements, including MCCSS standards
Communication & Teamwork
Respond to financial inquiries from managers and staff
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
Participate in team meetings, training, and organizational initiatives
Other
Follow emergency and back-up procedures
Demonstrate effective use of technology
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
Pursuing a professional accounting designation (CPA preferred)
A minimum of 5 years full time relevant work experience
Non-profit or charitable sector experience is an asset
Experience with Passport One financial reporting is preferred
Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment
Proficiency in MS Office, Sage 300, and advanced Excel
Strong time management and problem-solving skills
