Altex Industries Inc. is a leading Canadian manufacturer specializing in the design, fabrication, and servicing of heat transfer equipment for the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power Generation, and Industrial sectors. With a commitment to quality, safety, and innovation, we are seeking a 1st Year Machinist Apprentice to join our growing team on Night Shift.
This position is covered under the applicable Collective Agreement.
Position Summary
The Machinist Apprentice will work under the direction of experienced machinists to learn machining processes, CNC operations, blueprint reading, and quality control procedures while developing the skills required to progress through the apprenticeship program. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to build a long-term career in manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions with guidance.
- Assist with the setup and operation of CNC lathes and other machining equipment under supervision.
- Learn CNC machining processes, machine controls, and manufacturing procedures.
- Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges.
- Assist with tooling changes, machine maintenance, and equipment upkeep.
- Support Journeyperson Machinists in completing production requirements.
- Perform quality checks to ensure parts meet specifications and tolerances.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Participate in apprenticeship training and skill development opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered as a 1st Year Machinist Apprentice or eligible and willing to register.
- Mechanical aptitude and a strong interest in machining and manufacturing.
- Basic understanding of blueprints and precision measuring tools is considered an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Reliable attendance and a positive work ethic.
- Ability to learn quickly and take direction from experienced team members.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in a Machinist Apprenticeship Program or willingness to register as an apprentice.
