MITIGATION TECHNICIAN
At First General Fort McMurray, we provide emergency mitigation services for damage caused by water, sewer back-ups, fire, smoke damage, wind damage, vehicle impacts, catastrophic storm response, bio/trauma clean-up, asbestos remediation, and full construction services.
The Mitigation Technician on the Mitigation team is responsible for safeguarding our clients’ properties and mitigating risks related to environmental hazards. The Mitigation team is responsible for overseeing and conducting various environmental mitigation projects. These projects may include but are not limited to mould remediation, lead abatement, and hazardous material cleanup utilizing specialized equipment and following strict safety protocols to ensure the successful completion of each project. This position reports to the Field & Logistics Manager, Production Manager, and the respective Project Manager.
The Mitigation Technician assists in the fast response to emergency property damage claims and other restoration-related activities within Edmonton and surrounding areas. The worker must be highly organized, have worked in the restoration field or related industry and capable of managing a portfolio of minor and major projects simultaneously where property insurance claims require prompt, competent attention. Excellent people skills, ability to multi-task, attention to detail and ability to learn new technology are some of the qualities the successful candidate must possess. This position works closely and reports to the Lead Mitigation Technician and Project Managers. This Technician must be organized and driven to complete projects to help clients return to their home.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with equipment, supplies, and vehicles for emergency claims response.
- Participating in training sessions for new staff, providing guidance on administrative duties and safe work practices.
- Working alongside the Lead Mitigation Technician and team to execute tasks according to project work scopes and requirements.
- Following instructions from Lead Mitigation Technician and Project Managers and communicate any concerns or updates promptly.
- Perform emergency job tasks such as packing, moving contents, tear-outs, setup of equipment, and cleaning.
- Assist in collecting samples of materials and documenting contents at job sites using Encircle.
- Monitor and assist in performing psychometrics using IICRC standards.
- Operate power washer and assist in water extraction as necessary.
- Help secure job sites and maintain equipment, tools and personal protective equipment.
- Participate in vehicle inspections and mitigation training sessions.
- Ensure completion and accuracy of necessary paperwork and digital forms.
- Maintain cleanliness of job sites and proper storage of equipment and supplies.
- Respond to after-hour emergency claims as part of an on-call rotational schedule.
- Support site activities, including demolition of building materials, equipment setup and shuffling, construction cleaning, site protection and hoarding, and content documentation, packing, handling and storage.
- Maintain cleanliness of site, vehicles, equipment and tools.
- Utilize various software for documentation, time keeping, photo documentation, and job reporting
- Follow and adhere to company Health & Safety policies and guidelines.
- Performing all required safety site and vehicle inspections on a regular basis.
- Coordinate with site supervisor for dedicated tasks and possibly oversee other site support members.
- Supporting with a variety of tasks and needs as they arise to ensure we are successful in all aspects.

Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in the restoration industry is required
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks as required
- Class 5 Drivers License with clean Driver’s Abstract
- Criminal Record Check clearance
- CSTS & WHMIS certification
- IICRC Water Restoration certification
- Other IICRC certifications considered an asset (FSRT, OCT, Asbestos)
- Willing to travel between sites in the Edmonton and surrounding areas
- Standard First Aid considered an asset
- Experience with demolition or construction is an asset
Skills:
- Knowledge in water and fire restoration, IICRC standards and restoration industry practices
- Ability to perform moisture mapping and moisture readings in digital software
- Clear understanding of restoration psychrometric chart and drying efficiencies
- Understands how to deploy and set up drying equipment safely and effectively
- Client-facing and customer service skills
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to learn new technology
- Ability to follow direction and work independently
- Physical stamina to lift and maneuver equipment and materials

Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Requires participation in a 24/7 afterhours on-call rotation every 5 weeks for one week, Monday to Monday.
Salary: Starting $25 to $30 per hour based on experience and qualifications
Vacation: 6% vacation pay of earnings paid out on each paycheque in lieu of accumulating paid vacation leave. In addition, 3.6% of statutory holiday pay of earnings is paid out on each paycheque.
