We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary School team. St. Francis School provides a faith-based, Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwächän Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. SFACS is a 8-12 school of approximately 460 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. The uniqueness of each child is celebrated. This 0.857 FTE temporary teaching position is for the teaching position for senior English courses, and Religion.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
-
Recent experience teaching English and Social Studies at the secondary level;
-
Experience teaching in faith-based school;
-
Experience working with students who are English Language Learners (ELL) and students new to Canada is an asset.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

strong lesson planning and organizational skills;

Ability to plan, organize and manage secondary students in general classroom settings;

Ability to ensure religious education activities and instruction are consistent with Catholic teaching and traditions;

Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities; including for students with IEPs;

Willingness and ability to participate in the total school program including religious education and social justice initiatives;

An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the faith life of the school community;

Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population.
