Job Overview
We are an established public accounting firm serving a diverse client base that includes corporations, registered charities and non-profits, various services industries clients, and investment holding companies. We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team and manage bookkeeping, payroll, and indirect tax compliance across a portfolio of client accounts.
Duties
- Perform full-cycle and year-end bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients across various industries, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
- Prepare month-end and year-end working papers and adjusting journal entries in support of compilation, review, and audit engagements
- Process payroll for client businesses, including source deductions, ROEs, T4/T4A and T5018 filings, and remittances to CRA
- Prepare and file GST/HST returns, and PST returns for applicable provinces, ensuring accuracy and timely remittance
- Reconcile GST/PST payable and recoverable accounts, and resolve discrepancies with CRA and provincial tax authorities
- Maintain accurate books in QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Sage, Xero, and other accounting software used by clients
- Communicate directly with clients to gather source documents, clarify transactions, and provide bookkeeping status updates
- Support engagement partners and staff accountants with year-end file preparation, working paper organization, and CRA correspondence
- Identify and flag unusual transactions, coding errors, or compliance issues to the engagement team
Assist with CRA and provincial tax authority audit and review requests as needed
Qualifications
- Proven experience with bookkeeping and accounting in accounting firm is must
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliation
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare clear reports
- Knowledge of budgeting processes is a plus
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Prior experience in account reconciliation and account analysis is must
Pay: $18.00-$21.50 per hour
