Position Overview
West 5 Resources Inc. is seeking an experienced Intermediate Accountant to join our team on a contract basis. This is an on-site position based in Calgary, Alberta.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years of recent, hands-on experience using Pandell financial software within the Canadian oil and gas industry. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and experience working in a fast-paced upstream oil and gas environment.
Reporting to management, the Intermediate Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end reporting, and ensuring compliance with corporate policies and Canadian accounting standards. The role requires close collaboration with Operations, Production Accounting, Land, Joint Venture partners, and external advisors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Perform monthly account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Complete month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
- Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Monitor cash flow and assist with treasury management.
- Review, post, and reconcile Treasury, Accounts Payable, Joint Venture, and Production Accounting transactions.
- Upload JIB files to EnergyLink and release billings to joint venture partners.
- Review and approve non-operated joint venture billings.
- Prepare and file monthly GST returns.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Support external audits and year-end financial reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of corporate tax working papers and coordinate with external accounting firms and tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Collaborate closely with Management, Operations, Land, Production Accounting, and other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain financial systems, ensure data integrity across platforms, and support the development and maintenance of internal controls, policies, procedures, and document management practices.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of recent, hands-on experience using Pandell financial software in the Canadian oil and gas industry (required).
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) or progress toward designation is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles and full-cycle accounting.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, joint venture accounting, and financial reporting.
- Strong working knowledge of EnergyLink and JIB billing processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
