EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Position: Full-Time, Permanent
Reports To: The Board of Directors
Location: Peel Region, with travel throughout Halton and Hamilton Region as required
Working Conditions: In Person (5 days)
Building Multicultural Communities (BMC) is a non-profit charitable organization committed to strengthening the self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and capacity of individuals and families through support programs, information, skills development, and meaningful participation in society. BMC serves diverse communities across Peel, Halton, and surrounding regions through culturally responsive, client-centred programs in settlement, employment, youth, mental health and wellness, homelessness and housing stability, seniors’ supports, and community engagement. The Executive Director (ED) serves as the strategic and operational leader, responsible for advancing the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability and serves as the senior executive leader for both Building Multicultural Communities (BMC) and My Community Services (MCS). Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the (ED) provides leadership across organizational operations, financial stewardship, people management, community engagement, partnership development, and program oversight.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Governance
· Provides executive leadership and operational oversight for both Building Multicultural Communities (BMC) and My Community Services (MCS), ensuring alignment with each organization’s mission, strategic priorities, governance requirements, financial sustainability objectives, and regulatory obligations.
· Attends and participates in Board of Directors meetings.
· Supports transparency, accountability, and strong relationships between the organization, the Board, and the membership.
· Prepares supporting reports for Board meetings.
· Supports the Board in developing and reviewing policies for Board approval, develop and maintain operational procedures and job descriptions, and ensure compliance with approved policies and procedures.
· Serves as the chief spokesperson and ambassador for BMC, enhancing its visibility, credibility, and reputation across the community and sector.
· Ensures confidentiality is maintained at all times for members, clients, employees, students, and volunteers.
· Ensures that regular organizational and program reviews occur and that changes are made where required.
Financial Administration
· Directly oversees all financial activities related to the annual and day-to-day operation of BMC and MCS.
· Leads the preparation of a comprehensive annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors.
· Partners with the Board to support funding development through research, relationship-building, and proposal preparation.
· Ensures strong financial oversight, internal controls, and compliance with organizational policies, funder requirements, and applicable regulations
· Keeps the Board informed through regular, accurate financial reports outlining the organization’s revenues, expenses, cash flow, and emerging financial risks.
Operations and Programme Management
· Manages the organization’s day-to-day operations.
· Establish performance metrics and evaluate organizational outcomes to demonstrate impact, inform decision-making, and meet funder expectations.
· Supervises and participates in the development, delivery, and evaluation of BMCs programs and services, ensuring they reflect the mission and direction set by the Board.
· Prepares supporting reports for Board meetings.
· Supports the Board in developing and reviewing policies for Board approval, develops and maintains operational procedures and job descriptions, and ensures compliance with approved policies and procedures.
· Advocates for policies and funding that advance the needs of newcomers, refugees, and vulnerable communities.
· Lead enterprise risk management, including operational, financial, legal, reputational, cybersecurity, and business continuity planning.
· Ensures confidentiality is maintained at all times for members, clients, employees, students, and volunteers.
· Ensures regular organizational and program reviews occur and that changes are made where required.
Human Resources Management
· Determines and meets staffing requirements to effectively deliver and manage the organization’s programs and services.
· Creates a supportive, safe, and culturally grounded work environment for employees and volunteers.
· Supports and coordinates recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training processes in accordance with Board-approved policy, in collaboration with the Board. Final hiring decisions are made by the Board.
· Ensures a performance management process is in place and that regular staff reviews are conducted by managers or supervisors.
· Works with the Board of Directors on salaries and other compensation matters.
· Supports clear roles, fair HR practices, and consistent supervision processes that strengthen accountability and workplace stability
Community Relations & Representation
· Acts as the organization’s spokesperson and promote BMC’s mission, services, and community presence in a way that supports trust, transparency, and respectful relationships.
· Carries out media and public communication responsibilities as assigned by the Board and in accordance with approved policy.
· Establishes and maintains working relationships with relevant government departments/ministries, funders, and community partners.
· Represents BMC on appropriate committees, networks, and collaborative initiatives.
· Leads fundraising, donor stewardship, grant development, sponsorship acquisition, and philanthropic partnerships to strengthen financial sustainability.
· Maintains a visible, respectful, and active presence in the multicultural community of Peel and Halton.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
· Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Services, Human Resources, Non-profit Management, or a related field.
· Strong knowledge of diverse community cultures and protocol with the ability to lead in a culturally grounded, respectful, and community-informed way.
· Deep understanding of multicultural community needs, opportunities, and service gaps.
· Minimum 5 years of senior management, executive director or senior executive leadership.
· Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in the non-profit or social services sector.
· Experience in initiating, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services.
· Demonstrated experience with financial oversight, budgeting, reporting, and accountability within a nonprofit or community-based setting.
· Strong record-keeping and documentation abilities.
· Experience working with a Board of Directors is strongly preferred.
· Strong knowledge of Board governance, strategic planning, policy development, organizational accountability, budgeting, financial oversight, audit processes, and long-term financial sustainability planning.
· Knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and non-profit compliance requirements.
· Experience managing government-funded programs and meeting reporting requirements.
· Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and culturally responsive service delivery.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
· Fluency in one or more additional languages relevant to the populations BMC serve is considered an asset

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
· Salary Range $118,000 – $145,000 annually

WORKING CONDITIONS & OTHER INFORMATION
· This position is on-site, in person, for 5 days per week
· Occasional evening and weekend work may be required
· Travel across program locations, regions and to community meetings is required
· Successful completion of a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check is required upon hire
· Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable transportation are considered definite assets
