Position Summary
Windigo Catering LP is seeking an experienced and motivated Kitchen Manager to lead kitchen operations at the Musselwhite Mine remote camp. This is a rotational position working 14 days on, followed by 14 days off. Reporting directly to the Camp Manager, the Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing daily food production, leading kitchen staff, maintaining food safety standards, controlling inventory, and ensuring exceptional service for a camp population of more than 500 people.
Transportation to and from the work site, accommodations, and meals are provided while on rotation.
Qualifications
- Red Seal Cook Certification (required).
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Culinary Arts or a related field is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of management experience in hospitality, food service, or a related industry.
- Five or more years of experience working in a remote camp environment is preferred.
- Experience managing food production for large-scale operations serving 500+ people.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough knowledge of food safety legislation, HACCP principles, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Strong computer and administrative skills, including inventory management and reporting.
The successful candidate must successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment and any required site-specific training before commencing employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all kitchen operations while maintaining high standards of food quality, customer service, and workplace safety.
- Supervise, mentor, and support kitchen staff, including Chefs, Second Cooks, General Helpers, and Dishwashers.
- Develop and manage staff schedules to meet operational requirements.
- Monitor food production to ensure consistency, quality, and portion control.
- Order food, supplies, and kitchen inventory while controlling costs and minimizing waste.
- Develop, review, and update menus in collaboration with management and client requirements.
- Ensure compliance with HACCP standards, food safety legislation, sanitation requirements, and company policies.
- Conduct employee orientation, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Work collaboratively with the alternate rotation Kitchen Manager to ensure continuity between crews.
- Lead daily toolbox and line-up meetings with a focus on safety and operational excellence.
- Maintain accurate records, inventory reports, and production documentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Camp Manager.
