We’ve been brewing high quality, hand-crafted ales and lagers in the heart of East Vancouver’s historic Brewery Creek district since 1997. We’ve come a long way, but continue to keep things modest, unique, fun and local.
We’re seeking an experienced Sous Chef to help lead our kitchen operations and culinary direction. This role combines creativity with management, as you’ll help develop seasonal menus, pair dishes with our beer lineup, and oversee specific aspects of kitchen performance.
In this role, your time will be primarily spent performing hands-on kitchen duties, with a small amount of time dedicated to administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook dishes according to established recipes
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, setting and following daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules
- Lead kitchen operations by setting standards, implementing new policies, and ensuring compliance to food safety, cleanliness, and health regulations.
- Oversee equipment maintenance and develop operational guidelines to enhance kitchen efficiency and safety
- Train, and mentor kitchen staff to build a high-performing team
- Manage staff scheduling and ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations through clear guidelines and efficient processes
- Step in as acting Kitchen Manager when the Head Chef is on vacation/ sick.
- Collaborate on beer pairings and create dishes that complement our tap list
- Work closely with restaurant management to introduce new dishes, improve recipes, and continuously raise service standards
- Maintain high standards for food presentation, quality, and consistency to ensure a memorable dining experience
- Streamline ordering processes and oversee food inventory to ensure the kitchen is always well-stocked while managing costs effectively
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience as kitchen management, or similar role
- FOODSAFE certification
- Diploma in hospitality or culinary arts an asset but not required
- Strong attention to detail
- Proven leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Works well under pressure
- Familiarity with inventory management and cost control practices
