Responsibilities
- Manage the full cycle of general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing processes.
- Prepare detailed financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory standards.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and accounts receivable/payable management to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Perform bank reconciliations regularly to verify cash balances and identify discrepancies promptly.
- Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring timely payments while maintaining compliance with internal controls such as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act).
- Handle accounts receivable collections, invoicing, and cash flow analysis to optimize liquidity.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities to aid strategic planning efforts.
- Assist with regulatory reporting requirements relevant to governmental or non-profit sectors.
- Utilize various accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or similar tools for efficient financial management.
- Conduct internal audits and support external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial data.
- Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions, including debits & credits, journal entries, and ledger updates.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to mentor junior staff members on technical accounting concepts and best practices.
- Stay updated on securities law, tax regulations, estate law (wills & trusts), and other relevant legal frameworks impacting financial reporting.
Experience
- Proven experience in corporate or public accounting with a strong understanding of GAAP standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial report writing, interpretation of complex financial data, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft or equivalent platforms.
- Familiarity with SOX compliance procedures and regulatory reporting requirements for governmental or non-profit organizations.
- Strong knowledge of technical accounting principles including accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, and account analysis.
- Experience conducting audits or supporting audit processes is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform detailed financial analysis including cash flow forecasting and budget variance analysis.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and report generation; experience with other financial software is a plus.
- Prior mentoring or leadership experience within an accounting team is preferred to foster continuous improvement.
