The Opportunity: The learning specialist will provide students with strategic learning support, advocacy, intervention, and academic support services to students and work collaboratively with faculty, college students, and college-wide services. This position is responsible for tutoring students individually and in groups, promoting integration in a classroom, and enhancing effective learning and self-management strategies that foster academic progress, confidence, and success through individualized consultations and group programming. This position will support students by helping to develop ways to integrate skill development to foster an environment to develop employability and confidence.
What you need to be successful:
- Minimum two-year diploma in a Community Services or related discipline, Bachelor of Education an asset
- Academic qualifications in Special Education are considered an asset.
- Experience teaching and tutoring individuals with identified learning barriers and diverse needs
- Knowledge of and experience with the developmental needs of adult education.
- A deep understanding of the contributing factors to individual student success
- At least one certification in supporting student well-being (ie. Mental Health First Aid, Autism Awareness, Safe Talk, ASIST, etc.)
- Superior interpersonal communication skills and excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a team environment.
- Advanced skills in problem-solving and solution building
- Display an understanding of adaptive software equipment.
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office suite and other technology such as Learning Management Systems
This is a full-time support staff position, 35 hours/week, 10 months per year, Payband G - $34.60 - $39.93/hour (starting rate $34.60/hour).
NOTE: I/O, Appendix D and PT staff are considered internal.
