As a Mortgage Default and Recovery Officer, you will work closely with CMI’s mortgage servicing team to manage arrears, defaults, and recovery processes. About the Role
Reporting to the Mortgage Administration Team Lead, you will manage administrative and operational aspects of the mortgage enforcement process. You’ll collaborate with borrowers, investors, solicitors, and internal teams to resolve payment defaults through clear communication, organization, and a strong understanding of legal enforcement procedures.
You’re client‑focused, comfortable with technology, and known for staying organized under pressure. You enjoy working independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate with borrowers and investors to address arrears and resolve default situations
- Prepare internal and external statements, including arrears, enforcement, information, and discharge statements
- Maintain enforcement ledgers and work with accounting to ensure accurate processing of fees and payments
- Coordinate and manage internal discharge processes
- Liaise with solicitors throughout the legal enforcement process, from demand letters to foreclosure
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date enforcement logs
- Provide timely updates to investors and internal stakeholders
- Build and maintain strong relationships with borrowers, investors, solicitors, financial institutions, and other partners
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in mortgage collections, recovery, or default management
- Law clerk or legal administration experience is considered an asset
- Education in financial services or mortgages is preferred
- Strong knowledge of Ontario mortgage default and enforcement processes in the private lending market
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Sheets, and database systems
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Self‑starter comfortable working in a remote setting

Pay: $35.00-$37.00 per hour
