Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
This course strengthens occupational therapy processes of practice, working with families, communities and systems to support and promote mental health and wellbeing. It addresses the ways mental health intersects with social conditions (such as poverty, housing precarity, addictions, criminalization), affecting occupational participation. Primary prevention of mental illness and addiction will be a key focus, along with evidence-informed therapeutic approaches. Ethical standards and ethical decision-making will be emphasized, as well as processes for navigating mental health and addictions care within and beyond the formal healthcare system. Labs will focus on applying clinical reasoning and practice skills for assessment, intervention and documentation.
We are looking for up to 2 part-time instructors plus 1 Lab Coordinator (up to 30 hours each/term). Under the guidance of the Course Instructor and a Lab Coordinator, each Instructor will tutor and evaluate groups of students using problem and case-based learning in Occupational Therapy Skills Labs. Tutorials will be on-site on Fridays from 1:00 – 3:00 pm and lab prep time is expected to be held from 12:30-1:00 am prior to each lab. Tutors may be required to attend on-site special events labs or exams on alternative days with advanced notice. Other off-site preparation, marking and/or office hours may also be required. Tutors are required to attend an orientation session prior to the academic term (to be scheduled). Additional training beyond the orientation session may also be required. As time permits, other duties may be required to assist with lab preparation and/or delivery.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
- An entry-to-practice qualification in occupational therapy and current registration as a licensed occupational therapist are required. A Master’s degree is an asset.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills and scheduling flexibility are required.
- Clinical experience in adult, pediatric and teen mental health and/or addictions in a mix of inpatient and community settings is preferred.
- Experience working with members of the Indigenous community, the Black Community and Seniors would be an asset.
- Technological access to the Brightspace platform will be required.
