Job Posting: Site Superintendent
Company: Trans Canada Contracting
Location: Saskatoon, SK (with travel throughout Saskatchewan)
About Us
Trans Canada Contracting is a Regina-based general contracting firm specializing in commercial, industrial, and institutional projects of varying scales. We're a midsized, close-knit firm that prides itself on maintaining positive, supportive relationships across our entire team. If you're looking to move from a large, bureaucratic environment to one where your ideas actually shape how projects get run, come join our team. We offer industry-leading wages and benefits without the corporate red tape.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to oversee construction projects from start to finish. The majority of our work is performed by subcontractors, and the Superintendent's core role is to coordinate, schedule, and hold that work to a high standard of quality, safety, and workmanship. Where gaps come up on site, the Superintendent steps in or arranges coverage to keep the project moving. This is a leadership role first: you're running the site, not carrying the tools all day.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Report and coordinate regularly with the Project Manager on schedule, budget, and site progress.
- Supervise and coordinate all on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and local building codes.
- Ensure quality control on the work of subtrades and our own forces at every phase of construction.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine quality control and quality assurance requirements.
- Step in directly, or arrange labour, to close gaps in scope — e.g., minor concrete, backing, fixture installs, and demolition management.
- Maintain safe working conditions for all workers and subcontractors on site.
- Conduct weekly toolbox meetings, monthly hazard assessments, and regular site inspections.
- Complete accurate daily job diaries, safety reports, and progress records.
- Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to resolve issues as they arise.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years' experience as a Superintendent or senior site lead on ICI (institutional, commercial, industrial) projects. Experience with water/wastewater treatment facility construction is an asset.
- Trade Certification: Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter designation preferred, or equivalent field experience managing similar scopes.
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; comfortable with digital record-keeping and platforms like SiteDocs.
- Soft Skills: Strong supervisory, scheduling, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Able to communicate effectively and tactfully with everyone from labourers to owners' reps.
- Licensing: Valid driver's license required.
- Physical Ability: Willing and able to perform physically demanding work as needed, including lifting items in the 30-50 lb range.
Working Conditions
- Schedule: Typically 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, with weekends and overtime as project needs require.
- Travel: Willingness to travel throughout the province is required, including out-of-town stretches with overnight stays. All travel time and overnight stays are fully compensated, and a company vehicle is provided for work use.
- Environment: Site Superintendents work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
