Program background:
Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House (CCNH) is seeking a compassionate Community Navigator to support local residents in Kensington-Cedar Cottage who are facing barriers to employment, training, and community participation. This outreach focused role is grounded in relationship-building, harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and resident leadership. The Community Navigator works alongside residents to identify goals, build confidence, strengthen social connections, and access employment, training, and wraparound supports. The position is funded through a provincial pilot Community-Based Employment Services program in partnership with MOSAIC, YWCA, Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House, Helping Spirit Lodge, The Kettle Society, and Slaxin Lelum
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct community outreach and build trusting relationships with individuals experiencing multiple barriers to employment, community participation, and well-being.
- Provide person-centred wraparound support, connecting participants to employment, housing, food security, healthcare, childcare, and community services.
- Support participants in employment readiness, job search, résumés, applications, and goal-setting.
- Develop and facilitate activities, workshops, and community-based programs that strengthen participant engagement, inclusion, confidence, and social connection.
- Provide trauma-informed, safe, and strength-based support tailored to diverse participant needs and lived experiences.
- Collaborate with community partners and maintain accurate documentation.
Qualifications
- 2–3 years experience in employment services, outreach, volunteer development or related community-based or community development work supporting individuals facing complex barriers.
- Knowledge of Neighbourhood House approach that builds on the strengths and capacities of individuals
- Education in social sciences or combination of education, training, lived experience, and community-based practice.
- Experience supporting people navigating barriers related to homelessness, mental health, substance use, poverty, and caregiving responsibilities.
- Knowledge of community resources and supports, including housing, income assistance, childcare,
- Familiarity with WorkBC and local employment or Indigenous support services is an asset.
- Strong communication, facilitation, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently in flexible, outreach-based settings.
- Valid Criminal Record Check required.
- Additional language skills are considered an asset.
Terms of Employment: 35 per week including evening shifts and occasional Saturdays
Salary & Benefits: Competitive benefits package including group medical and pension; hourly rate of $30.92 per ANHBC Wage Grid P4-Step 3 depending on skills and experience
